Public Release - Build 0.4 (Mnesis route)

Good day, friends.

At long last, I'm bringing you the first major route update, that being Mnesis, as voted by the patrons. It's longer than the previous updates have been so far, and introduces a good amount of content, including some updated art assets in addition to new ones.

As always, there's new music from Hop-Skip & The Chewtoys, including awesome themes for Mnesis and Lucas. There's also a special little animation towards the end of the build by Vanillabell - you'll know it when you see it. And, of course, we now have a custom title screen music, made by the talented Eymon (pssss, go check out The Blue Cloth).

I got a lot of coding help and advice from GruntSteel - without him, I wouldn't be able to do half the things I've added to this build. Please go check out his projects, Distant Travels and Steadfast. I'm incredibly grateful for the time he put into dealing with my questions.

Before the changelog, I also wanted to provide a general update on how development is going. Unfortunately, my primary laptop died on me right in the middle of a vacation I was taking abroad, a time I had hoped to dedicate to bringing the Superfang build closer to fruition. Luckily, I had enough backups that I can continue working on Super-Nova even as my laptop gets repaired (which I'm told may take up to a month, if replacement parts end up being required). As such, the next patreon update will definitely come sometime this month, with a public release in June.  Swaggy is hard at work on some exciting art we'll see in that build.

Back to the current update, though: unfortunately, the loss of my laptop also meant that I don't have access to some Ren'py stuff for Android updates. While we do have an Android build, your saves will not work, and you'll have to reinstall the app completely. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience. At least it's a valuable lesson for me, and it happened relatively early in development, so it shouldn't become an issue again as long as I'm diligent with backups.

Note - PC build saves might also break due to some changes in the code. I generally advise everyone to start fresh and skip forward, to make sure all flags are working correctly.

Changelog for Build 0.4:

  • New story chapter (approximately 13k words) for the Mnesis route;
  • New character sprite;
  • New assets for some of the existing sprites - the Sentinels are all able to look at each other now while talking
  • Updated sprite for Mnesis (hair, face);
  • Small adjustments to Superfang's sprite;
  • Title screen music by Eymon;
  • Three new original music tracks by Hop-Skip & The Chewtoys ("You_Couldnt_tell_my_Vices_from_my_Gifts",  "Whats_a_Hero_without_their_Sidekick", "Justice_Comes_from_the_Hips");
  • Animation by Vanillabell;
  • More overall polish on the coding side of things, thanks to GruntSteel;
  •  Minor typo & error fixes.

As always, please make sure to report any typos or bugs, preferably on our Discord server.

P.S. To access the route, make sure to either try taking the bracelet off when the choice comes up, or speak with Mnesis before selecting him as your mentor.

See you all soon for the Superfang update!

Como eu nunca tinha visto nada sobre esse jogo? Gostei tanto que não sei como fiquei 4 meses sem conhece-lo.
Ótimo trabalho!

I miss the old main menu theme a bit :( The new one is also nice though!

"Back to the current update, though: unfortunately, the loss of my laptop also meant that I don't have access to some Ren'py stuff for Android updates"

Do you know what "stuff" is that? Because it happened a few times to other VNs when some1 else built the apk and they kept telling us our phones were the problem lol

Not sure about the other cases. Here, it was simply that I didn't save my android.keystore online, which is (from what I gather) something like an electronic signature of mine. So the app doesn't know it needs to update

Thanks! I think that's it as it makes sense. I just didn't know how it was called.
